WHAT Does an Optician Do?
The difference between an optician and optometrist include some of the following points. An optometrist like Dr. Bingham is responsible for:
- Conducting the larger part of your routine eye exam.
- Treating eye injuries and infections.
- Diagnosing eye conditions like glaucoma.
- Removing a foreign object embedded in the eye.
- Assessing a prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses.
An optometrist can perform their duties alone in a solo practice since they are eye doctors, whereas opticians work together with optometrists or ophthalmologists, but with a different set of responsibilities. An optician may be responsible for:
- Performing some of the earlier parts of an eye exam to prepare a patient to visit with the optometrist.
- Determining if your vision insurance plan covers the optometry services you need.
- Informing you about our own resources for reducing eye care costs.
- Understanding your eyeglass prescription in order to help you choose new eyeglasses and lenses you’ll love.
